Hair Bangs Styles

Hair Bangs Style Type: Short and Choppy
Cool to the nth degree, this bob features, chunky temple-hugging panels and crown layers that are styled for roundness.
  • IS IT YOU? If you’re going for a short hair cut with this much overall edge, you need a lot of attitude, fairly even features and a proportional face shape.

Hairstyles Hair Bangs
Slanted Hair Bangs
Hair Bangs Style Type: Slanted
Bold, chevron-shaped hair bangs style angling smoothly to one side create a two-cuts-in-one effect when the back of the crown is ultra-lifted.
  • IS IT YOU? Hair pros recommend this hair bang type for its ability to add softness to strong face shapes; try it if you have square, oblong or round face shape.

Piecey Hair Bangs
Hair Bangs Style Type: Piecey
Piecey, angled hair bangs style coming off a full crown echo this bob’s asymmetry and choppy edges.
  • IS IT YOU? Pointy hair bangs styles can soften a round face’s curves and a square face’s strong jawline. It also flatters the oblong face, as it draws the eye upward. Keep in mind that if your hair is curly, they’ll be tough to maintain.

Hairstyles Hair Bangs
Eye-Veiling Hair Bangs
Hair Bangs Styles Type: Eye-Veiling
A blonde with a short, layered haircut gets major mileage from curvy, pieced-out hair bangs falling past the lashes.
  • IS IT YOU? The look’s a great choice if you have a high forehead that you’d like to conceal; it won’t work so well if your hair is super thick and/or curly.

Hairstyles Hair Bangs
Pouffy Hair Bangs
Hair Bangs Style Type: Pouffy
Full, slightly asymmetrical hair bangs is a perfect match for this Paris Hilton’s retro-inspired pageboy.
  • IS IT YOU? Hair bangs styles like these will disguise a high forehead and help draw attention away from a wide jawline, which is typical of the inverted triangle face shape.

These long hair styles win celebrity best tressed survey!

Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce Knowles & Katy Perry topped the charts (in that order) in the 16th annual Sally Beauty Best Tressed Survey. The survey polled results from 1,000 American women on the best and worst celebrity hair styles of the year.
Long layered haircuts have clearly been the trend in celebrity hair styles for the last year and more. This poll is another indication that long hair styles are here to stay for a while longer. These long hair styles have varied mostly with the cutting in of bangs or no bangs. Side swept bangs, blunt bangs, wispy bangs or choppy bangs all contribute to changing the overall look of long hair styles, so find out if bangs are right for you.

Pixie Cuts, Can You Wear Pixie Haircuts?

The Year of Pixie Cuts!

Pixie cuts started to catch a wave about a year ago in Hollywood and still have lots of ladies pondering the thought of cutting it all off!  And, when they do, they either love em’ or hate em’.
Why are pixie cuts loved by many but worn by few?  The answer is simple . . . it’s the fear of the unknown. It’s a big commitment to cut your hair so short. What if you hate it, there’s nowhere to hide?  There’s not a lot of hair styling options to go to if you don’t like it so short, so should you risk it?
So what should you consider before taking the plunge to a pixie haircut?  A good hairdresser, especially one that knows you and your quirks, can help you tremendously.  Not only can a good hairdresser help decipher if a short hair cut like the pixie cut, is right for your face shape and body proportions, but equally important, if this short short hair cut will suit your personality.

Face Shape
  • Oval face shapes- are ideal for pixie cuts, but other face shapes can work as well. Modifications of layering and styling to the pixie cut can be made to balance with many face shapes. Heart shaped faces are second only to oval face shapes. If the chin –line is dramatically tapered it can be offset with flicked up pieces behind the ears. Round face shapes can be balanced by creating more height at the crown and longer flipped up pieces in back or wisps on the face. An oblong face shape can be balanced by creating texture and fullness on the sides.

Pixie Haircut, Short Haircut or Mid-Length Haircut
  • Temper any rash decision to cut all your hair off!  Cutting off all your hair is not an answer to frustrations. Discuss it with your hairdresser; bring in pictures of short haircuts and pixie cuts you like. Also bring in a couple of alternative haircuts you would consider. Sometimes going shorter in stages is a better option and may be altogether easier on your wellbeing.
Pixie cuts top the charts as a quick and easy hairstyle.  Pixie cuts mean less maintenance; less drying and hair styling time. That has to account for one big reason women love this cut!  But, one more way you can check out if you might like the pixie cut is to stop at the mall and try on a similar short wig. It won’t be the exact end result, but will give you an idea!

Oscar Hair 2011 Best Hairstylist

And the Oscar hair award goes to . . . .

Adir Abergel, is the hairstylist behind some of Hollywood’s most glamorous stars, Jessica Biel, Kiera Knightly, Jennifer Garner and more. But, Adir Abergel wins our vote for ‘Best Hairstylist’ at the 2011 Oscar Awards for his inspiring naturally glamorous hairstyles on co host, Anne Hathaway!
Adir Abergel was the man behind what we think were some of the best Oscar Hair Styles of the night. I imagine he had an ‘Edward Scissorhands” quick change style going on behind the scenes (minus the scissors). But, the hairstyle changes he created for Anne’s costume changes looked easy, natural and unforced. Her hairstyles were flawless!  Bravo Adir!
When asked what his secret is to creating red carpet, naturally glamorous Oscar hair, Adir said, “I believe that in any job that is creative it’s about a collaborative effort, making sure that the hair never overpowers the woman and that the woman always shines thru. I use very little hair care product so the hair always has movement and bounce and doesn’t feel stiff and matt. Shine creates youth and body and movement creates sexuality.”
Touche’ Adir Abergel!  Don’t you love a hairstylist who doesn’t force the issue of needing an arsenal of hair product to get a great hair at the Oscars?  We love that he has the gonads to admit that great hair needs to be able to shine through and that can only happen by not ODing it with too much product!

Kate Winslet’s pixie haircut is a Big 10!

Kate Winslet unveiled this seductive new platinum pixie haircut in the April issue of British Vogue yesterday!
We recently posted this article on The New Pixie Cut Hits Hollywood , but Kate Winslet’s new transformation to a platinum pixie haircut takes the award! Make a dramatic hairstyle change like Kate Winslet did . . . and it will get noticed!“Pixie Haircuts are Trending this Spring “
Kate’s new platinum pixie haircut has a sort of classy, rock and roll feel that gives her a whole new vibe, don’t you think? That’s Hollywood! They understand that the fuss and excitement of a new hairstyle makeover goes a long way as a media attention grabber, especially dramatic hairstyle and color transformations like Kate’s platinum pixie haircut!
Kate’s haircolorist did an outstanding job with this icy platinum hair color. The color compliments her light skin tone and adds drama with her dark eyebrows. Maybe seeing that helps answer the question, “Do I need to color my eyebrows when I drastically change my hair color?”
The new pixie haircut and color also are a fit for Kate Winslet as she said; “I’m embarking on a new chapter in my adult life, and I’m single and it doesn’t scare me at all.”

Liz Taylor Top 4 Classic Beauties!

Elizabeth Taylor is one woman who will go down in history as a ‘classic beauty’. Elizabeth Taylor defined celebrity hair.  Today, and in recent days to come, she will especially be remembered for who she was and how she made her mark in the world. My guess the words, ‘classic beauty’ or similar adages will be used often in describing Elizabeth Taylor.“Elizabeth Taylor Defined Celebrity Hair”
Four women top my chart of “classic beauties of the 20th century;” Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly.  There are only a handful of women who stand out among Hollywood’s finest.

Marilyn Monroe Classic Celebrity Hair

Grace Kelly Classic Celebrity Hair
So, what causes one exquisite woman, like Elizabeth Taylor, to stand out among all the other beautiful women in Hollywood?  It goes beyond having just a pretty face or figure, even though; let’s face it, that’s huge! But, it goes deeper than that.
It takes more than just physical beauty to rise to the top of such a list of women. The way she carries herself, her drive and ambition or her indisputable authenticity about who she is, even her outrageousness plays a part in the public’s perception.
Ahhh, but we know total perfection isn’t realistic in defining classic beauty and life’s imperfections can create ties that bind too.  Liz’s love life played out like a Hollywood Oscar winning drama and played a role in connecting her to the public. She lived her life as she wanted.  After a rebellious 8 marriages with 7 husbands, some would say she was in a life-long search for her ‘soul mate.’  However, in spite of, and maybe even because of faults and controversy, her fans had a love-hate-love again relationship with her.
Elizabeth Taylor tops my list of the 4 classic 20th century beauties.  Not only is Liz’s  physical beauty undeniable with a milky white skin tone, deep dark hair, definitive eyebrows and eyelashes and of course, her famous violet eyes, but her philanthropic interests were just as impressive.
Elizabeth Taylor was highly admired for her efforts in supporting AIDS research.  She was given the Legion of Honor Award, Frances most prestigious award, in 1987 for her efforts. The Academy Awards honored her in 1993 with a special Oscar, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, for her work for AIDS research and other causes.  And, in 2000, she was awarded the title of ‘Grande Dame,’ equivalent of a knight, by Queen Elizabeth ll, for her charity work and entertainment services.
Elizabeth Taylor was a passionate woman of many talents and had the dramatic flair to express herself beautifully. Receiving the Humanitarian Award to a standing ovation, she said, ” I call upon you to draw from the depths of your being, to prove we are a human race, to prove that our love outweighs our need to hate, that our compassion is more compelling than our need to blame.”
RIP Elizabeth Taylor, thanks for the memories . . . you were and always will be remembered as a ‘classic beauty.’
